    Emmanuel Babled was born in France in 1967 and graduated in Industrial Design at the European Institute of Design in Milan. He was a guest lecturer at the Domus Academy in Milan and at the Design Academy Eindhoven, where he also developed workshops. He started his career as a designer in Paris and in 1992 moved to Milan, where he founded his own studio and worked for 18 years. Before settling in Lisbon in early 2016, he lived in Amsterdam (The Netherlands) for 5 years.

    Babled has created limited and exclusive editions of furniture pieces, accessories and other design objects for over 30 years. An activity that is complemented by the development of other projects, design consultancy and curatorship for large companies and prestigious brands.

  • Fabiola Bergamo

    Fabiola Bergamo is director of the Fabiola Bergamo Design Box studio (São Paulo, Brazil), Design coordinator at the Institute A Cidade Precisa de Você (São Paulo, Brazil) and member of the faculty of the European Design Institute (São Paulo, Brazil).

    Since 1996, she’s a consultant for handicraft and design projects all over Brazil and to institutions abroad such as Sebrae, World Fair Trade Organization, UNIDO, among others.

  • Giulia Zappa

    Giulia Zappa was born in Florence (Brazil), but settled in Paris (France). She works in design communication, moving seamlessly and passionately between the great classics of design and speculative research and scalable prototypes. She graduated in Communication Sciences at the University of Bologna with a thesis on design semiotics, specialising in multimedia design at the Faculty of Engineering, University of Florence, and in design management at Parsons, New York. She has collaborated on various publications including Domus, Icon Design and Artribune. Giulia has also taught Communication and Multimedia at the Academy of Fine Arts in Rome and worked as a content curator, design strategist and copywriter. In addition to journalism, Zappa also works with the United Nations on sustainable development projects in creative industries and renewable energy.

  • Giulio Vinaccia

    Giulio Vinaccia is an Italian design ambassador, winner of the World Green Design Award and the Compasso d'Oro. He is a product designer who has worked 20 years for Italian brands such as Brembo, Ferrari Spa, Piaggio Spa, MomoDesign, Ducati, Aprilia, Gilera, Moschino or Borsalino. Since 1994, he has been a consultant in projects in which design is used as a development tool, working with different international organisations and institutions. Today, after working in more than 22 countries, he is one of the most respected experts in projects oriented towards social design. He is a senior consultant for UNIDO and other UN agencies and national governments. Since 2014, Vinaccia is the art director of the Creative Mediterranean project, founded by the EU and the Italian government to help the development of creative industries in Middle Eastern countries.

  • Imke Plinta

    Imke Plinta is a humanist, urban graffiti artist and Master in Design Culture. A lecturer, curator and design consultant for UNIDO, Plinta developed and implemented the programmes for the Master in Design and Innovation in Madagascar and the Master in Design and Innovation in Urban Development in Algeria.

  • Lucio Magri

    Lucio Magri (Brescia - Italy, 1973), course coordinator in Product Design Bachelor Degree at ESAD. He completed his academic career in Italy at Politecnico di Milano: PhD of Interior Architecture and Design (2004); Bachelor of Industrial Design (1999). Lucio Magri has taught at Poltecnico di Milano (IT), Universidade Lusófona de Lisboa (PT) and Universidade Federal da Bahia (BR). Between 2007 and 2010 he was been involved in UNIDCOM - Unidade de Investigação em Design e Comunicação at IADE, Lisbon (PT). He oriented and moderated several workshops and conference about participatory design and conceived the project, included in the official programme of Guimarães European Capital of 2012, Eu sou Couros (I am Couros). Since 2012, Lucio Magri has investigated the work of Architect Pancho Guedes. He wrote, in partnership with Architect José Luís Tavares, the books Pancho Guedes (2011) and Arménio Losa e Cassiano Barbosa (2011), part of the Portuguese Architects’ Collection published by Quidnovi and distributed with the newspaper Público. In partnership with architect José Luís Tavares and designer João Faria, in 2015 he edited the book Pancho Guedes Has Never Been to Japan – journeys through the photographic archives de Pancho Guedes, published by ESAD and sponsored by Direção-Geral das Artes (Portuguese governmental art committee).

  • Maria Milano

    Maria Milano is an architect, lecturer and curator. Since 1996, she has been the coordinator of the Interior Design courses at ESAD – College of Art and Design and is currently the director of the Master’s programme. Maria has been responsible for several international architecture and design exhibitions and seminars, such as 'Siza Design. A Procura do Sentido do Tempo' (2015), the Portuguese Pavilion at the 'XXI Milan Triennial'(2015) or 'Duets – Art On Chairs' (2012). She was the curator of 'Territorio Italia', guest country of Porto Design Biennale 1st edition, where she also coordinated 'Frontiere – Expressões de Design Contemporâneo' (2019). Maria is the co-author of the 'A Casa de Quem Faz as Casas' collection (2016/17), distributed by Público newspaper, as well of the the homonymous documentaries broadcast by TVI24. She’s the director of the 'Arquitectos Portugueses' collection (2011 and 2013), also distributed by Público newspaper, and author of a monograph on 'José Gigante' (2011) and of the book 'Paolo Deganello. As Razões do Meu Projecto Radical' (2009). She is also designer of several building refurbishment projects.

  • Patrizia Scarzella

    Patrizia Scarzella is an Italian architect and journalist, expert in brand identity and communication. She is also author of design research, literature, curator of international design exhibitions and lecturer of Marketing and Communication at Raffles Milano Fashion and Design Institute. Scarzella develops curatorial projects on Social Design in Asia and Africa for International Foundations and UNIDO and is co-founder of LabBrainDesign, innovation labs for companies and organisations.

  • Patrícia Soares da Costa

    Patrícia Soares da Costa is CEO of Marquinista - the locomotive of brands and works as an advisor on branding, perception and reputation to organisations, governments, startups and creative agencies.
    She has worked with WOLFF OLINS in London and Rio de Janeiro and with MYBRAND in Lisbon and São Paulo. She has also collaborated with BRAND UNION and BLOOM CONSULTING, in Madrid, and with IVITY BRAND CORP, in Lisbon. She was a communication advisor to the Minister of Economy for the brand Portugal, Innovation and Tourism.

  • Paula Sousa

    FOUNDER, CEO AND CREATIVE DIRECTOR
    MUNNA + GINGER & JAGGER

    Paula Sousa has a degree in Design from ESAD and developed her portfolio in interior and product design in Milan, in Studio Di Progetazioni CONGIU, and in Portugal for 7 years. In 2008, she launched Munna, a furniture brand where design and art are revisited in a curatorial perspective, by creating products for private and public interior projects. In 2019, Munna had already 10 international design awards. In 2012, Ginger & Jagger emerges and it is mentioned in several reference media such as the Financial Times and considered by Architectural Digest as one of the most prominent brands in the industry. Ginger & Jagger is inspired by nature and by the connection between design and craft techniques applied to metals, marble and wood. Both brands export to 64 international markets and are part of the Urbanmint Design company, founded by Paula Sousa.

    The designer also develops several creative design projects and is a mentor and guest speaker in academic and business lectures on design and entrepreneurship. Paula also has a postgraduate in Communication and a Certification in Coaching. She is currently attending a Master in Design Management.

  • Ruedi Baur

    A Franco-Swiss designer (Paris, 1956), Ruedi Baur specialised in the design of identification and representation systems for institutions, orientation and visual identification systems, urban design, information design and scenography. He studied graphic design at the Schule für Gestaltung in Zurich and moved to Paris in 1988, where he worked for the Picasso and Louvre museums and for the Centre Pompidou. In 1989 he founded the Integral concept, a network of five independent partner companies able to work together on any type of interdisciplinary project. His activity focuses on design, research and teaching. He is also the author of works exhibited worldwide and texts, including Ruedi Baur, identité de lieux, 2005, Ruedi Baur, intégral, anticiper, questionner, traduire, distinguer, irriter, orienter, inscrire, 2010, Les 101 mots du design graphique, 2011. He is the founder of ateliers BBV, Lyon 1983, Intégral Ruedi Baur, Paris 1989 and Zurich 2002; and laboratories Labo Irb, 2007, and Civic city, 2011. Ruedi Baur is a lecturer in Europe, Canada and China, since 1987.

  • Sigurdur Thorsteinsson

    For over 27 years Sigurdur Thorsteinsson has used a multidisciplinary approach and his skills in brand strategy, experience design and business development to advise clients at Design Group Italia. Sigurdur Thorsteinsson has worked on a number of design projects in various sectors including healthcare, lighting, food and destinations, for clients such as Blue Lagoon Iceland, Pepsico, ABB, 3M, Unilever and Unicef.
    Thorsteinsson is also a lecturer on design at academic institutions, namely IED, Politecnico di Milano and Iceland Academy of the Arts. Active in promoting design as a driving force for responsible innovation and social development, he led Iceland's first national design policy. He is also a member of the Industrial Design Association and the Icelandic Industrial Designers Association.

  • Ângela Carvalho

    Ângela Carvalho is a designer, photographer and consultant internationally recognised for her work in strategic design, product and image. International lecturer and jury of the IF Design Award, ngela has founded, in partnership with Alexander Neumeister, NCS Design Rio. She is a guest lecturer at the MBA Marketing and Administration at COOPEAD, at the Master in Marketing at UFRJ-Brazil and at HFG Offenbach, Germany. She writes about design, trends and consumer behaviour and she is committed to social and environmental innovation projects. ngela Carvalho is also a disciple of Master Ursula Lima and an advanced level practitioner of Ving Tsun Kung Fu.
